How I approach it
A boiler that's stopped is stressful, and the worst thing I can do is turn up, press reset, take a fee and leave you to ring again on Thursday. So I diagnose properly: what the fault code says, what the boiler is actually doing, and whether the cause is the boiler or the system it's attached to. Then I tell you the cost before I fix it, and whether it's worth fixing at all.
What I deal with
No heating or hot water
The most common call. Usually a failed part, a pressure loss or a control problem, and usually fixable the same visit.
Pressure keeps dropping
A leak somewhere on the system or a tired expansion vessel. Topping up isn't a fix; finding the leak is.
Lockouts and fault codes
Every make has its own codes. I carry the manuals and the common parts for Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal and Baxi.
Leaks from the boiler
Pump seals, heat exchangers, pressure relief valves. Caught early these are cheap; left, they rust the casing.
Noisy boiler
Kettling, banging or whistling usually means scale or sludge. A clean or a power flush beats a new boiler.
Repair or replace?
If the repair is a big part on a boiler over 12 years old, I'll say so and price both so you can decide.

How much does a boiler repair cost in Exeter?
£110 for the callout, which includes the first hour. Most repairs are done inside that hour plus the part, so a typical repair lands between £150 and £400 depending on what's failed. The parts table above shows the common ones. I'll quote before fitting.
Can you fix my boiler today?
Often, yes, during working hours. If I need a part I don't carry, I'll get you safe, order it and come back, usually next working day.
Which boiler makes do you repair?
Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm, Potterton and most others, plus Grant and Firebird oil boilers.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
I work with P Harman, a Gas Safe registered engineer, who carries out and signs off the gas work: boiler installations, repairs and annual servicing. We work together on projects, so you get one point of contact and the gas side certified under a current registration. His ID card is shown at the door and his registration can be checked on the Gas Safe Register. For oil boilers I trained with OFTEC and have years of hands-on experience, though I'm not currently OFTEC registered, so I'll tell you plainly if a job needs a registered installer to sign it off.
When can you come?
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Same-day for breakdowns where I can, and an honest arrival time when you ring. Out-of-hours by arrangement only.
